Salmon Bay has been producing concrete at its Northwest Seattle location, since before most of Ballard, Fremont, or Magnolia had paved streets and sidewalks. The concrete mixes used in those early days were commonly 1-3-5 or 1-2-3, referring to the proportion of cement to be blended with those of sand and gravel. For example: 1-3-5 would be; 1: Cement, 3: Sand and 5: Gravel. This would approximate today’s 5 Sack mix (5 sacks of Cement per cubic yard of Concrete). Salmon Bay currently has over 1100 mixes in its computerized batching system, with the ability to develop more, as necessary, to meet the needs of our customers or their specific job requirements.
Normal mixes of 5 to 6 sack concrete regularly produce a compressive strength of between 2000-4000 PSI (pounds per square inch) at 28 days. Salmon Bay can produced concrete to meet any strength requirement from lean mixes of 150 PSI to high strength design mixes, which have exceeded 12,000 PSI.
In addition, Salmon Bay is widely known for its ability to consistently provide quality colored concrete for residential and commercial projects. Popular earth tone colors can be created by integrally blending special pigments into typical gray concrete to create a mix which is colored through and through. Architectural finishes to pervious concrete, small residential to large commercial……Salmon Bay can meet your needs and fulfill your expectations, just as we’ve been doing since 1907.
