Current Exterior Insulation and Finish System (EIFS) products bear a remarkable resemblance to their earlier predecessors, which were successfully introduced into the United States more than 40 years ago. What has changed in today’s systems, are the manner in which these original products interface with new product innovations and engineering principals to create an energy efficient “Water Managed” exterior cladding system, for both residential and commercial applications. Currently the best EIFS systems incorporate weather barriers, extensive use of flashings and a drainage plain, all of which are installed behind the original 4 EIFS components; Expanded Polystyrene (EPS), Polymer Cement Basecoat, Fiberglass Reinforcing Mesh and a Textured Acrylic Finish.
